Mookie Betts and the LADF make Thanksgiving Special for South L.A. Families

Thanksgiving provides us an opportunity to gather and celebrate with loved ones, and this year the Dodgers provided the food for many of those family gatherings in South Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) teamed up with Brotherhood Crusade and Mookie Betts’ 50/50 Foundation to hand out Thanksgiving meals to 1,500 families Friday at Algin Sutton Recreational Center in South L.A. The rec center, home to the first and the 50th Dodgers Dreamfield, hosted the LADF’s third annual turkey giveaway as volunteers handed out meals, toys, and other supplies via drive-thru.

The event meant a lot for Betts, whose 50/50 Foundation aims to empower inner-city students and families.

“Thanksgiving means the world to me, especially getting to spend time with my family,” he said. “It’s hard for me to spend time with my family, especially with my work. Thanksgiving really hits home for me, and I really cherish these moments and cherish giving back.”
